Uganda’s NAKIBEMBE EMBAIRE GROUP and Japan’s Kodo specialize in the most primitive way of creating music: beating a rhythm—tataku in Japanese. The members of NAKIBEMBE EMBAIRE GROUP gather around an embaire—a giant wooden xylophone— to conjure rhythms and respond to them with vocals and shakers. Kodo will bring its powerful and intricate world of sound into that sphere to create a feel-good realm of resonance together. In East Africa, people say the music of the Busoga people of the Eastern Bantu region is truly unique.
